Getting a group of musicians together to record a band is a fantastic task with a great pay off. Showcasing a band’s chemistry is a complicated process, but if done right, it can show the world a tremendous talent.

Get The Gear

The first step of recording a band is to have the correct equipment. As well as having the right instruments for your musicians, it’s important to have the right recording equipment. Make sure the laptop or computer that you use can run DAW software. The recording will also require and interface that can take multiple XLR inputs. To make it simpler, make sure you have plenty of XLR cables as well as a guitar amp to help distinguish the sounds.

Prepare

Before even setting up the band, it’s important to fully prepare. Make sure you know what songs and how many songs you plan on recording. Break down the timing for the song and how much time you have. Having someone who can sound engineer will also help you have better control over the recording session. Pick a good recording space that conducts sound well for both the recording and for the benefit of the band.

Good Foundations

After every recording session, the listen back is as critical as the preparation. Critically evaluate the sound of your band and move forward to the mixing stage. If you get good takes at practice or live event, don’t be afraid to weave them in. Setting a good precedent for your recording will make it easier in the future.

The recording is a wonderful way to share the style of your band. Take it slow and do it right, and the outcome will be entirely pleasant.
